SUMMARY
Succeeding the Redmi Watch 3 from 2023, the Redmi Watch 4, without revolutionizing the genre, has solid arguments to make. Larger screen, better battery capacity… it can, more than ever, argue the good equipment-price ratio dear to this Xiaomi brand. The first Redmi bracelet to run under HyperOS, the manufacturer's new OS, this model has the look of a connected watch thanks to its XXL screen. Its design is also reminiscent of that of the Apple Watch SE.

With such a low price, does the Redmi Watch 4 offer the services of more expensive devices and sufficiently versatile and efficient functions to convince on a daily basis? We tested this connected bracelet for a few weeks in its silver gray version. Here is what we thought of it after evaluating its main functions: monitoring sleep, health and sports activities, but also its ability to inform and communicate.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY OF THE XIAOMI REDMI WATCH 4
On the French market since the beginning of 2024, but somewhat overshadowed by Xiaomi's numerous launches at the major Barcelona mobility show (MWC), the Redmi Watch 4 is on sale on the Mi Store and from many specialized sellers. Its price is 99.99 euros and is among the most attractive from the manufacturer, significantly lower than that of a Xiaomi Watch S3 or even a Xiaomi Watch 2.

Amazon even sells it as “Prime” below 95 euros. And for those ordering for the first time on Mi.com, Xiaomi offers a reduction of 15 euros after activation of a coupon.
Xiaomi's Redmi Watch 4 connected bracelet is available in two colors, silver gray and obsidian black. For both versions, the case matches the bracelet. As this Redmi benefits from an easily unclipable bracelet, it will be possible to change color as desired by purchasing additional “straps” on the Xiaomi website.

The Redmi Watch 4 comes with a proprietary USB-A charging cable, without a charger. It works as usual with the Mi Fitness app for Android and iOS.

A PLEASANT, BUT NOT DISCREET DESIGN
The Redmi Watch 4 has a false appearance of Smart Band 8 Pro, the XXL version of Xiaomi's flagship mini bracelet. However, it is much wider and a little thicker, which makes it not very discreet on a small wrist. In return, the user benefits from a really very large screen of almost 2 inches, very practical for viewing their data.
From a design point of view, the Redmi Watch 4 displays a disturbing resemblance to the Watch SE 44 mm, more than any other Xiaomi model due to the presence of the crown, even if on the Watch 4 this rotating crown turns out to be more centered . With its extraordinary dimensions, this Redmi is more of a watch than a bracelet. You will just have to deal with its large format on the wrist, in the absence of two models (one small, one large) like with Apple watches. For those looking for a less massive device, it will always be possible to turn to the Smart Band 8 Pro or the Redmi Watch 3. The first costs only 79.99 euros and the second displays a lower price, around 100 euros , at certain retailers.

The completely flat screen of the Redmi Watch 4 bracelet is stunning with its deep blacks and bright colors due to Amoled technology. It is like, on the Smart Band 8 Pro, surrounded by a fine metal net. The brushed aluminum edges, slightly domed, look classier, in our opinion, than those in the Band's chrome finish. At the back, there is of course no ceramic where the sensors are, only plastic, but as this coating is invisible when the watch is worn, it is not very serious. The sensation on the wrist will just be more “plastic”, without being fundamentally unpleasant. The lightness of the case is reflected and this is for the best, since it weighs only 31.5 grams (less than 50 grams, bracelet included).

If Xiaomi does not mention any protection for the screen glass (such as Gorilla Glass for example), it seems quite resistant. After wearing it day and night (or even mishandling it) for a few weeks, it shows no scratches. The case is, for its part, waterproof. It will therefore be possible to take a shower or swim in the pool with the Redmi Watch 4. The silicone bracelet is less flexible and therefore less pleasant to wear than that of the Smart Band 8 Pro, without it being really annoying. You get used to it quite quickly and it has the merit of being solid. The closure system is not one of our favorites, but here too, we end up taming it and the clip holds well.

The silver and notched crown provides an elegant design element, while providing a navigation aid... which can be improved as we will see later. On the back, we find the heart rate monitor and the magnetic charging port to connect the supplied USB cable (identical to that of the Smart Band 8 Pro). Finally, this Redmi is equipped with a microphone and a speaker to answer calls exclusively (no listening to music or voice responses from Alexa, just sound alerts signaling the arrival of notifications).

A BEAUTIFUL DISPLAY SURFACE
With its resolution barely lower than many high-end models, i.e. 326 dots per inch, the square (or almost) screen of the Redmi Watch 4 offers a large, highly precise display, perfectly suited to reading messages and other sports or health data. Its brightness is limited to 600 nits, which is not so bad, without coming close to the stars of the field like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 (2000 nits) or the Oneplus Watch 2 (1000 nits). This brightness is found on all of Xiaomi's latest devices, but it is sufficient in almost all cases, except when really directing the screen towards the sun. The AMOLED screen and its bright colors which contrast with the intense blacks contribute to excellent readability.

The usual settings all answer the call, whether it's the automatic mode which adjusts the brightness optimally, the "always on" mode, or the possibility of establishing time periods during which we don't want to be disturbed.
